Watch the cars click and clack their way down the four tracks on this wooden race set. You can send them one at a time or all together, start them wherever you fancy, and mix up the combinations however you like — send one halfway down while another launches from the top, or see if one car's got enough momentum to shunt another off the bottom. It's the sort of thing that keeps toddlers absorbed while they're naturally picking up hand-to-eye coordination and fine motor skills.

You get a chunky wooden track and three wooden cars, all made from sustainably sourced wood and painted in bright colours with fun patterns. The whole thing's compact enough to pack away — packaging is 34.50 x 30 x 8 cm.

Early Learning Centre has been making early years toys for over 50 years, and they're pretty good at the thoughtful design bit. The idea is to build the foundations for children to create their own stories through play.
