Sea elephants are remarkable travellers. They spend months at sea hunting for food, diving deep when they need to, then head back to their rookeries come winter to breed and have their young.

Here's the thing though: the males and females do it differently. The males stick to pretty much the same route each time, whereas the females are more flexible—they chase the prey around, which means their routes change depending on where the food is.
