The Shiba Inu was originally bred in Japan to flush birds and small game, and occasionally to hunt wild boar. He's one of Japan's six native breeds—the Akita, Kishu, Hokkaido, Kai, and Shikoku sit alongside him—and he's the smallest of the lot. You'll spot him by his spirited personality, those small upright ears, and a cat-like agility that's honestly quite something. These days he's mainly a companion dog, doing what he does best in homes across Japan and the United States.
